Opening day
Nature decided to welcome the 80th Legislative Session with a marvelous ice storm. Although Austin traffic skidded to a halt and the outdoor Inauguration festivities were cancelled, the session proceeded on at a furious pace.
“Opening Day” is the term used for the beginning of the new legislative session. Freshman legislators with their families and well-wishers beam with excitement on the first day. For Capitol veterans, it is a time to see old colleagues, craft new laws, and try to get back home as soon as possible.
Opening Day is available only as a limited edition, signed (by Ray Spivey) and numbered lithograph, limited to 2000 prints.
